Poem for Take Your Child to Work Day 2017

Like the buffalo on the plain
Startled into a run by rain
Children on this particular day
Are more ready to play.

Their random movements
Evocative of quantum moments
Diagrams of photon activity
Electrons bouncing avidly.

Again I am a gawky teenager
In a classroom, none the sager,
Speaking lines I invented during the drive
Trying for profundity before I arrive.

Calm! All this worry is for naught
All hasty preparations wrought
For those whom no adults make foes
And regard their parents as heroes.
